In the first full week after it was launched on August 26, World of Warcraft Classic has brought the massive multiplayer online game Blizzard Entertainment to heights on Twitch that it has never seen, and a platform for that. Not only games that generate large amounts of hype, but a total of 47.1M hours watched more than any game produced in a week this year or last year. Prior to this last week, there were five occasions where the game had produced more than 30 million hours watched in 2018 or 2019. Two of the 30 million + weeks came from Dota 2 during The International, one from Fortnite at its peak in the summer of 2018, and others from Apex Legends when it was released in February.

According to Dot Esports, Twitch statistics captured on the Sullygnome website have shown that, in the seven-day period since WoW Classic was launched last week, the watch time for WoW reached 55 million hours. Or, you can read it about 6,274 years. That's a lot of WoW watching. At the time of writing, the numbers have now changed to below the 48 million hour mark over the past seven days, with the first day numbers now only outside the week-long arrest period. Even some faces that might not get along much with World of Warcraft have decided to take a risk and check Classic. Battle Royale fans might be surprised to learn that Michael "Shroud" Grzesiek has enjoyed the Classic. Recently Shroud went even further by praising Asmondgold for being an entertaining WoW streamer.

If Shroud praises the game and the community tells us nothing about Classic WoW, it appeals to a variety of different gamers. One thing that keeps retail WoW from getting new players is the incredible expansion and existing systems. Classic is an opportunity to start the Azeroth adventure from scratch.
